Grounds for Divorce in Florida

The first paragraph of a recent article on Huffington Post Divorce reminded me of something that I mention to clients at every initial consultation.  The article, titled, "If Divorce is No Fault, Why do They Fight?", begins, "It takes two to tango, and it surely takes two to marry. But it only takes one to divorce."

According to the Florida family law statutes, the grounds for getting a divorce are simple; one party needs to state that the marriage is irretrievably broken.  In Florida divorce cases, the judge is not concerned with whether one party is at fault.
