Collection of Child Support on the Rise
The Chicago Tribune reports that due to stronger laws and increased resources, the ability for parents to collect child support has steadily risen over the years. The biggest factor is the advent of automatic income withholding, or what
Florida family law calls an, "Income Deduction Order". The story quotes the author of "Child Support: A Complete Reference" as saying incoming withholding has roughly doubled the amount parents are able to collect versus 20 years ago.
The story goes on to give a number of tips for more effectively collecting child support in a divorce or
paternity case. It starts by detailing how to get set up on income withholding and refers to the federal Office of Child Support
Enforcement. As a last resort, criminal charges can be pressed.
