European Union Moves to Clarify Divorce Laws

Much has been made recently about Greece's monetary problems, and their effect on the European Union.  What has not been major news about the EU is how they deal with family law issues.  Specifically, what happens when a husband and wife from different European countries within the EU get a divorce?  Some countries' divorce laws may be better for husbands, others for wives.

The EU is grappling with a problem that has been partially solved in the United States.  Here, we have the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Enforcement Act that proscribes where a divorce case with child custody issues can occur.  It will be very interesting to see what the EU adopts to help with their burgeoning "divorce shopping" problem.
