Catastrophe in China Leads to Spike in Divorce Rate

A recent Sify.com article reports that there has been a spike in the divorce rate in Southwest China's Sichuan province during the first nine months of 2010.  According to the article, some experts feel that the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake is to blame for the rise in family law cases.  The article quotes sociology expert, Guang Wei, who states, "After experiencing the 8-magnitude earthquake, which killed more than 69,000 and left 18,000 missing, many Sichuan residents began thinking life was short and unpredictable, and decided to live each day to the fullest."

Those of us in the Tampa area usually are not concerned with earthquakes, but I am curious if the divorce rates rise after other catastrophes, such as hurricanes or tornadoes.
